Self-Mangement

​Learning new skills involves multiple approaches including problem solving and responding to your chronic pain on a daily basis. Pursuing a healthy lifestyle includes regular exercise, healthy eating, stress management and good sleep habits. We will discuss making decisions about when to seek professional help and what treatments to try. Throughout the process you will learn to manage symptoms and negative sequela such as depression and anxiety. Techniques to help you work well with your healthcare team and communicating with family/friends are reviewed. Using medications safely while minimizing side effects is addressed. Finally, preparing to participate in work, volunteer, and social activities is an important step in recovery as is locating and using local resources.
